Journal Entry #1 Week 1
January 12th
There was only one home basketball game this week for the boys and girls teams.
It was my first day on the job so I wasn't given a large responsibility. I read over the
rules of the GLIAC and everything that needs to be done on a Game Day. After that
was to monitor the crowd make sure no one sat in the first row. Then when halftime
came around and the beginning of the boys game I had to hold a rope to make sure
no one stepped onto the court and made it slippery or get it dirty.
Journal Entry #2 Week 2
January 19th
This week like the first there was only one basketball so my responsibilities really didn't
change much. The rope still needed to be held; before the girls game, at halftime of the
girls game, beginning of the boys game, and at halftime of the boys game. Also monitoring
the crowd making sure everything was going okay and seeing if anyone needed help. We
got a new concession stand so we went to the closet to see if we had anything in there that
could be utilized in the concession stand. We had to go look for a popcorn maker, and look
for coolers to store the pop in This day I learned that I would be gaining more responsibility
for the next upcoming games.
Journal Entry #3 Week 3
January 29th
This was the first week where I had more than one game. This week I had two games and my
responsibilities increased. There was a halftime show created by students during the girls
halftime game. The halftime show duties were pretty simple; the winners were two kids and
they had to shoot a layup, free throw, and a three pointer. My duties were to simply get the
rebound if the kid missed. This was also the halftime show of the boys game, but this time it
wasn't little kids it was college kids.
January 31st
After we had the halftime shows on the 29th we had to return to our normal duties for this day.
The normal duties that I normally had to do. Crowd control, keep people off the court, and game
manger. Then we met with Darby to discuss what we may be doing for the next game and possibly
new duties we will need to start prepping for.
Journal Entry #4 Week 4
February 5th
Only one game again this week, but it was Findlay and it was busier than a normal game versus
Tiffin. So crowd control and keeping fans off the court was tougher than normal. The fans filled
the stadium and we had to actually allow them to sit in the front row. Keeping people off the
court was impossible and as a game manager we just had to accept the fact that it wasn't going
to happen. The VIP seats for this game was more important than normal and we made sure that
they had everything and even made sure the room was at a nice cool comfortable temperature.
There was a glass bottle dropped and that was the first time we had a situation were we needed
to respond quickly to get the game rolling again.
Journal Entry #5 Week 5
February 14th
Just one game again this week, and normal duties were required, but the away team didn't have
enough bench seats so I had to run and get them two extra seats. After that I ran the concession
stand and all that I had to do was take people orders, take their money, give them their change,
and then get them what they ordered. We made popcorn and ordered pizza, even tried selling
Tiffin athletic gear like socks. Before the game was over we had to clean up the concession stand,
count the money, and lock up before we were allowed to go home.
Journal Entry #6 Week 6
February 26th
Again only one game, but it was the last game so we had two halftime shows. One at the girls,
and one at the boys. Darby couldn't make it to the game so I was in complete control as the
assistant Athletic Director and game manager. First I had to set up the admissions table then
I had to check VIP seats then after that I had to get the game checks for the refs and show
them their locker room. During the game again was crowd control and then came the first
halftime show. It was a new game that students created and you had to shoot a half court
shot wherever the second bounce was is where you had to shoot from, once you made it
you through it down to your partner and on the second bounce is where they had to shoot
from until they made it first one to make it won. My job was to pick the people doing it and
rebound. At the second halftime show I was responsible for getting the table and setting out
the pizza for the pizza eating contest. After that was over we had to clean up and that
concluded my last day for basketball.
Journal Entry #7 Week 7
March 26th
Easy day, because it was my first day on my new job. This time I would be working softball
games. On this day I watched and learned what I would be doing so I supervised this game
making sure the fans stayed respectful. My other job was to get foul balls and make sure they
got returned to the field so they could continue play.
Journal Entry #8 Week 8
April 2nd
Two game days this week which means four games in total. Besides getting foul balls again I
had to line the field for the first game and in between games for the second game as well.
That was I really had to do for this day besides being a game day manager again and making sure
everything ran smoothly. I did that for both of the days and all four games.
April 4
This day like April 2nd I had the same responsibilities lining the field, chasing foul balls and
being a game manager making sure all the foul balls got back into play. Helping the
atmosphere of the game and keeping fans calm so it was enjoyable for everyone else who
was trying to enjoy the game.
Journal Entry #9 Week 9
April 6th
I did two different sports this week for Tiffin, one was softball the other was women's golf.
For softball I didn't do a lot because I was learning new jobs, running scoreboard, playing
music for walk ups and in between innings, and game day announcing.
April 11th
For golf I had to get there early to get snacks ready, set up team boards for the driving range,
get water into coolers, fix a sign that was broken, and pin up scorecards for teams scores and
individual player scores. After the girls got done driving I had to go help gather up the golf balls
that the picker missed. When that was done and the girls were done golfing everything that was
set up had to be torn down that day.
Journal Entry #10 Week 10
April 15th
This was the day I started my new assignment for softball and I had the pleasure to announce
both games. What players were up to bat, who was getting subbed in and out, and at the
beginning of the game announced the players and the position they were playing. Also that day
I helped the umps to their locker room.
Journal Entry #11 Week 11
April 23rd
On this game day I got to run the scoreboard. No work is really required to do so. Make sure that
the balls, strikes, hits, runs, innings, errors were kept up. If not the ump got a little upset and made
sure you knew he was. Also I was privileged to show the visiting team where their locker room was
located.
Journal Entry #12 Week 12
April 28th
This week I had two game days, the first day day I finished up in the press box by doing the music
for the softball players. That included their specific walkup song when they were coming up to bat
and in between innings playing music until they threw the ball down to start the inning.
May 1st
My last day on the job was returning to one of my first jobs and chasing foul balls for Tiffin and
returning them to the bench so they could return to the game faster. I really enjoyed this internship
I really learned a lot and hope to get a similar situation for my career.
